Program Lock Order lets admins enforce a linear sequence through a Program. When enabled, each activity step stays locked until the learner completes the one before it — ensuring learners move through the content in the intended order.
Overview
By default, Program steps are available to learners in any order. Lock Order changes this so steps must be completed sequentially. This is useful for structured onboarding, certifications, or any program where completing earlier steps is a prerequisite for later ones.
How to enable Lock Order
Open the Program you want to configure, or create a new one.
In the Program settings, find the Lock Order toggle.
Turn it on.
Save or publish your changes.
What the learner sees
When Lock Order is enabled, learners see all the steps in the Program but cannot start a step until the previous one is marked complete. Locked steps appear visually distinct to signal they are not yet available.
Once a learner completes a step, the next one unlocks automatically.
When to use Lock Order
Onboarding programs — Ensure new learners complete foundational steps before moving on to more advanced scenarios.
Certification paths — Require learners to pass each stage before unlocking the next level.
Compliance training — Guarantee that prerequisite modules are completed before learners proceed.
Skill progressions — Build skills incrementally so each roleplay prepares the learner for the next one.
Notes
Lock Order applies to all step types in a Program — roleplays, media, documents, and links.
Admins and team leads can always view all steps regardless of lock status. The restriction applies only to learner (member) access.
If you enable Lock Order on an existing program where some learners are already mid-progress, steps they have already completed will remain unlocked for them.
To allow learners to complete steps in any order, leave Lock Order turned off (the default).
