Response Variety lets admins control how consistently or variably the AI responds across roleplay sessions. Use it to make the AI more predictable for standardized assessments, or more dynamic for open-ended practice.
Overview
By default, Yoodli's AI introduces some natural variation in its responses — phrasing, objections, and reactions may differ slightly between sessions even with the same scenario. Response Variety gives admins a dial to adjust this behavior per roleplay.
Low variety (more consistent) — the AI follows the scenario more closely and produces similar responses across attempts. Best for graded assessments or certification roleplays where all learners should face comparable conditions.
High variety (more dynamic) — the AI introduces more variation in phrasing, objections, and persona behavior. Best for free-practice roleplays where realistic unpredictability improves skill-building.
How to set Response Variety on a roleplay
Open the Roleplay Builder and select the roleplay you want to configure.
Go to the AI Response settings section.
Find the Response Variety control.
Adjust the setting to your preferred level.
Save the roleplay.
When to use each setting
Use lower variety when:
Learners are being evaluated or graded on the same roleplay and you want fairness across attempts.
You are using the roleplay as a certification or skills accreditation exercise.
You want the AI's behavior to be predictable for QA or testing purposes.
Use higher variety when:
Learners are practicing freely and benefit from encountering different objections or reactions each time.
You want the roleplay to stay engaging across repeated attempts.
You are simulating realistic, unpredictable real-world conversations.
Notes
Response Variety affects AI behavior at the response generation level — it does not change the scenario context, goals, or persona definition you have set up.
Admins set this per roleplay. Members cannot adjust it during practice.
For Tutor and Skill Accreditation scenarios using Strict Mode, the AI's topic scope is already constrained. Response Variety controls phrasing and style variation within that scope.
