The Custom Pronunciation Dictionary lets Org Admins fix how specific words are pronounced in Yoodli. This is especially helpful for company names, product terms, or acronyms that are commonly mispronounced.
This feature supports multiple languages, with some limitations depending on the rule type you choose.
What Is Custom Pronunciation
Custom pronunciation allows you to define how a word should be spoken by Yoodli. Once added, Yoodli will consistently use your defined pronunciation during analysis and playback.
This is a self serve feature available at the organization level.
Types of Pronunciation Rules
Yoodli supports two types of pronunciation rules. You can use one or both within the same organization.
Alias Rules
Alias rules are the default and are available in any language.
Key characteristics:
Plain text only
Example:
Yoodli→Yood-leeCase sensitive
If you want both
Yoodliandyoodlirecognized, you must create separate rules
Alias rules are best for simple, readable pronunciation fixes.
IPA or CMU Rules
IPA or CMU rules provide higher fidelity pronunciation but are English only.
Key characteristics:
Uses IPA or CMU phonetic notation
Example:
Yoodli→/ˈjuːdli/Case sensitive
If you want both
Yoodliandyoodlirecognized, you must create separate rulesIgnored if the language is not set to English
These rules are ideal when you need precise pronunciation control.
How to Set Up the Pronunciation Dictionary
This feature is available to Org Admins.
Go to Org Settings
Select Advanced Settings
Open Pronunciation Dictionary
Add your pronunciation rules
Test Your Pronunciation
Use the built in pronunciation tester to confirm your rules work as expected.
This is especially important when using IPA or CMU rules, as small errors can lead to unexpected pronunciation results.
Things to Keep in Mind
Rules are case sensitive
Language settings affect which rule types are applied
IPA or CMU rules only work when English is selected
If a pronunciation does not sound right, adjust the rule and retest before saving.
If you need additional help managing pronunciation rules, contact Yoodli Support.
