Blur Your Background During a Roleplay Call

Blur your background during a roleplay call to stay focused, protect your privacy, and keep the attention on your conversation, not what is behind you.

If there’s a lot happening behind you (movement, clutter, distractions), you can blur your background so the focus stays on you.

Yoodli doesn’t currently add a blur effect inside the roleplay experience itself — but you can enable background blur natively on Mac or Windows (and it will apply to your camera feed across supported apps).

For Mac: Use macOS Video Effects

macOS has built-in “Video Effects” like Portrait mode, which blurs your background during video calls.

Steps (macOS)

  1. Join your roleplay and turn your camera on.

  2. On your Mac menu bar, open Control Center.

  3. Click Video Effects.

  4. Turn on Portrait (this blurs your background).

Notes

  • Some effects require macOS Sonoma (14+) and compatible hardware (Apple silicon or Continuity Camera support).

  • If you don’t see “Portrait,” your Mac may not support it.

For Windows: Use Windows Studio Effects

Windows 11 can apply Background Blur using Windows Studio Effects (device/hardware dependent).

Steps (Windows 11)

  1. Open Settings

  2. Go to Bluetooth & devices

  3. Click Cameras

  4. Select your camera

  5. Look for Windows Studio Effects / Background effects

  6. Enable Background blur

This is a solid public reference walkthrough of where to find the setting:

Notes

  • Availability depends on your device (many features require newer hardware / NPU support).

  • If you don’t see Studio Effects, skip to “Fallback Options” below.
